This time I went with Futurismo, Azores Whale Watching. They do a very nice breafing about Whale Hunting tradition in Azores and besides they let you know about all the species that you can see, always depending on the "luck factor". Very kind staff :)
Also this time was better than my first one since now we were able to see a few sperm-whales besides of the playful dolphins :)
:P
Play the video i recorded and you will listen the lovely sounds of the dolphins :D
Back to Ponta Delgada after 3 exciting hours following whales and dolphins :D
At the beginning it was supposed to be just a 6 months experience but the attraction I felt to this island was so strong that I had the need to stay more!
And still here I am, 1 year later! :)
After this period I can say that my way to see, to live and to understand the life has changed in many senses.
I learned to appreciate every single moment and be grateful for every simple thing.
Thanks to all the fantastic people I have met and all kind of situations I have had to face,
now I can say that I have reached a state of happiness, wellness and peace of mind.
I will always have amazing memories of this island,
and I hope the island will have nice memories of me too :)
This sweet butterfly appeared silently to my garden. I got closer to see it better. Suddenly it secreted a weird red liquid from its body. The drop fell to the ground. (you can see it well on the pics). I thought the butterfly was injured or something cause it was moving the wings in an odd way. But after Googling it, I found out that, in fact, that drop is meconium, made of the waste material left over from the metamorphosis, and it usually comes out from the abdomen, when the butterfly emerges from the chrysalis.
Maia is a rural village which belongs to the Ribeira Grande municipality, in São Miguel Island (as usual :P). The settlement of the village dates from the 15 century, when the noblewoman Inês de Maia decided to establish her home there.
The pictures are taken the past May 28th 2012 during the Holy Spirit parade. As you can see, horses, tractors and farm animals are the main characters of the celebration. The Holy Spirit is a highly revered figure in all the islands of the Archipelago.
This viewpoint is just in the middle of the Serra da Tronqueira, (I already talked about it on my Lands of the Priolos post).
From here, if the clouds allow, you will enjoy the Vara Peak, the highest of the island,
but also a panoramic view of all the Tronqueira and even Algarvia village next to the ocean.
To arrive here, you'll have to drive through the Tronqueira road, very carefully since you're passing a protected area.
You will just hear the calm of the silence, the wind through the leaves of the trees and some birds happily singing :) (and the wind against my iphone if you check the next video lol)
