Jardins em Ponta Delgada

00 DSC_0644

If there's something that you will not miss in Açores is the green landscapes, even in the city you can find wonderful gardens full of vegetation, huge trees and all kind of flowers. In Ponta Delgada my two favorite ones are Jardím José do Canto (2€ to get in) and Jardim António Borges.

Jardim José do Canto. It is truely one of the richest and largest gardens on the island which has been visited by many famous personalities. It includes nice architecture such as The Chapel of Saint Anne from the XVII Century.

Jardim António Borges. The garden is named after an Azorian politic interested in botanic. He introduced exotic kinds of trees and plants to his garden, becoming a  wonderful Romantic garden in the middle of the city.

whale watching

DSC_0537
Açores Islands is one of the favourite places of dolphins and whales. Quite often, when you are travelling from one island to another, you can easily see them in the ocean playing with the waves of the ship. Otherwise you can go with one of the dezeens Whale Watching companies which is quite fun too :)

Here it goes some of the pictures I could take with MobyDick WhaleWatching. This boat leaves from Portas do Mar in Ponta Delgada and does a 4hours trip following the dolphins  and arrives until the Ilhéu de Vila Franca so that you also can enjoy the south coast of São Miguel.

Trilho Pedestre: Faial da Terra - Sanguinho - Salto do Prego (PRC9SMI)

IMG_1701

Lenght: 5km
Time: 2h in slow pace
Difficulty: Easy-medium

This trilho (hiking) starts at the village of Faial da Terra. At the end of the town it is already well indicated. You can take two different ways. In our case, we took the one that goes to the left so that we could have a nice view over Faial da Terra.

I have to say that this way is a bit longer than the other one but it really worths the effort of going up. Trust me, it is quite easy. Besides on the way you will pass through the village of Sanguinho. Then, after a wood bridge and some going up and down you arrive at the wonderful waterfall where you can have a refreshing bath :)

To go back you can take the other way which is even easier and shorter (you can see in the maps, the first is going to the waterfal of Salto do Prego, and the second one is coming back).

In total the "trilho" did not take more than 1h30 and 3,72km (yes, we were going up very relaxedly :P). Now, enjoy the pictures.
